WHAT IS MARRIAGE Registration?

Marriage registration is a certificate that proves the relation between husband and wife. A marriage Registration is issued by district marriage registrar, as per religious marriage and special marriage acts.

 

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION ACTS

Currently there are two marriage registration acts under which marriage certificate is issued :

The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 : When marriage is already solemnized where Husband and Wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs or when they are converted into any of these religions, they will be considered under these registation Act.

The Special Marriage Act, 1954 : Whereas, this act lay down the procedure for both solemnization and registration of marriage certificate where either of the party or both are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs.

This certificate can be presented at many places such as passport office, court, Bank, insurance offices, etc. to prove bride and bridegroom were married on a particular date.

WHO CAN REGISTER MARRIAGE IN DELHI 

  • Either husband or wife has address proof of Delhi
  • Marriage took place in Delhi

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE  IN DELHI 

1. 5-5 Passport Size photos of Husband & Wife Each.
2. Aadhar Card and /or Voter Card of Huband and Wife
3. Address Proof of Bride and Groom ( Any One ) - Voter Card / Driving License / Passport / Bank Passbook with photograph
4. Marriage Invitation Card or Marriage Document of Gurudwara /Temple
5. Age Proof of Husband and Wife ( Any one ) - Birth Proof / 10th Pass Document / Driving License / Passport
6. 2 Witnesses with Pan Card and Address Proof.
7. Divorce Decree in case of any or both Bride and Groom are divorcee.
8. Death Proof / Document of previous spouse in case of widow or widower.
9. Marriage photograph two of husband and wife

 

ELIGIBILITY CONDITION FOR MARRIAGE REGISTRATION IN DELHI 

 

1 Both the parties should belong to Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain religions.

2 Neither party should have a spouse living at the time of marriage.

3 Both the parties should be of sound mind, capable of giving valid consent, fit for marriage and procreation of a child.

4 Male should have completed the age of 21 years and female should have completed the age of 18 years at the time of marriage.

5 Parties should not come within the degree of prohibited relationship unless the custom or usage governing each of them permits of a marriage between the two.

6 Parties should not be sapindas of each other, unless the custom or usage governing each of them permits of a marriage between the two

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION PROCEDURE IN DELHI?

 

A marriage certificate is very easy,  Here are the steps:

Step -1 Create online credentials at http://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.i.... This is a must.

  1. AOnce you login, it will show you the documents needed to upload, each document must be less than 50 KB:
    1. PAN of bride and groom.
    2. 10th marksheet of bride and groom.
    3. Current address proof of bride and groom (Aadhar preferable).
    4. Passport size photos, marriage photos.
    5. 2 Affidavit on Rs 10 stamp paper. (you can get from the notary, lot of folks at court who prepare affidavit, format present on the edistrict website).
    6. PAN card and address proof of 2 witnesses.
    7. Once the upload is complete, then take an appointment. Do not pay fees online. If you paid fees online, it will not be reimbursed, you will have to pay at counter again.
    8. Now, prepare your file, arrange documents in order,
    9. Acknowledgment receipt of appointment.
    10. Application form duly filled and signed with passport size photos. Passport size photos should be on white background.
    11. Both affidavits.
    12. Photos on a plain white paper, 2 passport size groom photos on the top left and bottom left, 2 passport size bride photos on the top right and bottom right, 6X4 marriage photo in the center. Cross sign all the photos.
    13. Marriage card photocopy (preferable both parties),.
    14. Aadhar, PAN, Passport etc of bride and groom. Basically Age and Address proof.
    15. PAN and aadhar of 2 witnesses.
    16. Carry this file and all original documents (including marriage card if available) to SDM office (of your area, according to your appointment).
    17. Reach early 09:30 - 09:45 and give your file. They will give you a number, will call you according to the number. For me, it was the Najafgarh SDM office.
    18. At your turn, go along with witness and pay fees (using a debit card). Carry debit card, they do not accept cash.
    19. After the verification of your documents, the counter person will ask you to take your file and meet another person (writer to SDM).
    20. Go and meet him with Witness. He will ask you to sign in front of him and that is all
    21. You will get a temporary marriage certificate to your email ID.
    22. Take a color scan, sign and they reply back to the same email ID.
    23. After a couple of days, the marriage certificate will be available to your login. Please do not miss your login credentials. No hard copy will be provided, you can take color print of soft copy.
